LGBTQ+ Awareness for Care Providers

It has been identified within Northamptonshire that there is a severe lack of provision specifically for older LGBTQ+ people.

With many LGBTQ+ people facing the prospect of having to "go back in the closet" again when accessing care and support we have built this course to support Care Providers in the county to stand out from the crowd by ensuring they build inclusive, safe, spaces for the people they support.

This three hour training session is designed specifically for Care Providers and will help attendees to understand examples of health inequalities experienced by the LGBTQ+ community.

Within this session you will be guided through shared examples of what people have faced growing up as LGBTQ+, and the examples of challenges the community face in accessing care and support.
By the end of the session you will be able to identify ways to ensure inclusive practice within your organisation and how to effectively share these with other colleagues.

These sessions have been co-produced between the North Northants LGBTQ+ Forum, Members of the LGBTQ+ community, Care Providers operating in North Northamptonshire, and expert training providers.

A common piece of feedback we have had from previous sessions is around people coming in thinking they were already quite inclusive, and did a lot to support the community, but that by the end of the course they  left with eyes open knowing now there was so much they weren't aware of.

Each session is for a maximum of 12 people to ensure everyone leaves having been engaged fully in the content and are supported to develop their learning goals and action plan.

Thanks to our friends at the National Lottery Community Foundation, we have been awarded a grant to deliver this training more widely.
We are therefore able to offer up to 3 FREE spaces per organisation, per session.
